Wyoming’s coronavirus case total increases

7 new cases reported in Fremont County

LANDER — The total number of coronavirus cases in Wyoming is now 10, announced the Wyoming Department of Health late Monday evening. Testing at the Wyoming Public Health Laboratory identified seven newly reported cases in the state.

All seven new cases are located in Fremont County and are directly connected to the first Fremont County case, an older man who resides at Showboat Retirement Center in Lander.

In an earlier release, WDH attributed this case to "potential community spread" in the Lander area.

The other two COVID-19 cases are located in the Sheridan area. More testing across the state is underway, especially for those whose symptoms are severe or for those at greater risk. To further slow the spread of the disease, WDH urges all residents to stay home if they feel ill.

“We’re reminding everyone of how genuinely critical it is to do their part,” said Dr. Alexia Harrist, state health officer and state epidemiologist with WDH. “Take common-sense steps to avoid sharing your germs with others, especially with those who are more vulnerable to serious illness.”

WDH is continuing to follow up regarding exposure risks of the new cases and will work to identify and communicate with anyone who may have been in close contact with them. Known contacts will be monitored for symptoms and tested if needed.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and WDH, the best ways to slow the spread of COVID-19 include: avoid close contact with people, especially those who are sick (e.g., social distancing); stay home if sick; avoid touching your face; cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm; clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces; and wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
