SCSD2 discusses options for students, faculty

SHERIDAN — Sheridan County School District 2 held an emergency Board of Trustees meeting via Zoom at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

While the meeting linked in up to 25 people, board members joined from home or different rooms in the district building to adhere to a limit of 10 people in one room.

Superintendent Craig Dougherty said Monday the district was considering a hybrid model of schooling in which students may either attend school in-person or virtually and recommended avoiding gatherings of 50 or more people. However, due to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation to avoid gatherings of 10 or more people that include vulnerable populations, the district updated its plan.

Trustee Molly Steel voiced concern for staff members who may be already at a health compromise due to pregnancy, diabetes or other pre-existing conditions.

Dougherty said the district does not believe any staff within the schools are at health risk.

Because a hybrid model will require technology to teach and learn via distance, the district is looking to provide more technology training to staff. These trainings will be conducted at a distance to avoid grouping people.
