EMS, law enforcement continue to provide services

SHERIDAN — With many community members electing to work from home or staying home with children due to school closures, Sheridan County law enforcement and emergency response personnel are implementing precautions to provide services as usual.

Sheridan Fire-Rescue Chief Gary Harnish said SFR has been prescreening people during 911 calls for novel coronavirus COVID-19 symptoms and limiting SFR staff initially on scene when responding in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Ambulance service.

RMA owner Troy Goodwin said, as per usual, SFR staff will not be asked to enter a house unless absolutely necessary. RMA relies on dispatchers for prescreening information — Goodwin encouraged reporting parties with symptoms to inform the dispatcher so RMA staff can take proper precautions when responding to emergency calls.

RMA personnel only use N-95 respirator masks and suits when a COVID-19 case is confirmed, Goodwin said. RMA is now using extra disinfectant on equipment between calls. Goodwin said RMA has no “extra” staff, so existing personnel are responding to calls as usual.
