Hospital employee identified as fifth Sheridan coronavirus case

Updated with more information at 5:25 p.m.

SHERIDAN — A Sheridan Memorial Hospital health care employee is the fifth confirmed local case of COVID-19, hospital CEO Mike McCafferty announced at a press conference Friday afternoon.

As soon as the individual started to exhibit symptoms on March 23, he or she went home to self-isolate. The individual was then tested March 24 and results came back March 26. Hospital officials took great precautions to protect the identity of the individual — not even releasing an age range or gender as has been done with prior cases. The person is being monitored and is doing well in self-isolation.

"This is something that we're all in together," McCafferty said. "This is a virus that can impact any of us at any time and I think it's really important that we recognize the privacy of the people that this is impacting and their families."
