New positive COVID-19 case in Sheridan County

The total is now 16

SHERIDAN — A Sheridan County resident was reported to have COVID-19 Thursday afternoon, in addition to two new probable local cases.

The positive patient has no history of travel, and the origin of the disease is not identifiable, according to a press release from the Sheridan County Commissioners. At least 15 of the patient's contacts are under quarantine orders, and an investigation is ongoing.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, 16 Sheridan County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, in addition to six probable cases. Fifteen of the positive cases have recovered, as have four of the probable cases.

In addition, there have been nine lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases for patients who do not live in Sheridan County but were passing through. These numbers are not reflected in the county total. Seven of those patients have recovered. The two active positives are from out of state and are returning to their place of residence. The investigation into possible contacts has been concluded and all relevant parties contacted.

The news comes the day after Wyoming Department of Health urged caution, as numbers continued to rise across the state. There are 1,052 COVID-19 cases in Wyoming, an overnight jump of 36.

"As travel increases throughout the summer, we expect to see more positive cases come into the community," stated the SCC press release. "Please continue to be vigilant and practice all appropriate hygiene and distancing recommendations. Your hard work protects you, your family, and your community."

SCC encouraged the public to follow the guidelines outlined by the CDC and Wyoming Department of Health.
